Starting on December 1, we are celebrating Advent! Each day we read a Bible story and pull out the ornament for that day's story. The book we're using, The Advent Jesse Tree, takes us all the way back to the beginning and goes through God's story of creation and redemption, culminating on December 25 when we get to open the Nativity ornament. Each day's story points to Jesus and God's plan for His people. Caleb is really excited to open each day's ornament and put it on on our tree. (Levi is not in these pictures because he cannot sit still long enough!)
These are a few of the special ornaments we brought from home (not part of the Jesse Tree)
Daddy reading the story of the day, and Caleb waiting patiently to open the ornament!
Caleb showing off the ornament for Day 4, Abram's tent
Day 5, the lamb that was slain in place of Isaac (made by my Dad and me)
Day 6, Jacob's ladder
All the ornaments were made by friends at our church in Houston. We each were assigned a day and made 25 (one to keep and 24 to give away) of the same ornament, then exchanged. What a GREAT project!

Awesome... you are the second person that has blogged about this... and before this I had never heard of it... I can't wait to do this next Christmas... awesome...
Wow, that is so cool! I hope we will do something like that when Sam is a little older. This year we don't even have the tree up yet, for crying out loud!
This is an awesome idea! I have to eye your tree better Monday :-) My ornament advents are in storage...ah well! New traditions are good too!
I hadn't heard about this before either, but would love to start it as a tradition when we have a family.
