A quick thought

I'll post later on my continued study of Beth Moore's Jesus, The One and Only. It's incredible so far.

But, just a quick thought from what I studied earlier. Mary's song in Luke 1 and Hannah's prayer in 1 Samuel 2 are quite similar. Both were praising God and rejoicing in the blessing of their children (present or soon-to-be). I had never connected these two women before, and it was interesting to me. I have admired Hannah for some time, and if we had a girl that would have been her name (and probably still will if we ever have a girl), and I love the idea of looking at these two women side by side. Both had incredible faith in God, in His Word, and in His promises. What incredible examples they are.

And, now a prayer from Stormie Omartian's A Book of Prayer...

"Lord, increase my faith. Teach me how to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Give me stregnth to stand strong on Your promises and believe Your every word. I know that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Make my faith increase every time I hear or read Your Word. Increase my faith so that I can pray in power. Help me to believe for Your promises to be fulfilled in me. I pray that the genuineness of my faith...will be glorifying to You, Lord.
If you have faith like a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." -Matthew 17:20"

"For nothing is impossible with God." ~Luke 1:37 PRAISE HIM!!!

A Song

On my other blog, I asked everyone to pray Psalm 121 for our family. Here is the chorus of "Praise You in This Storm" by Casting Crowns that references Psalm 121. It's beautiful. Enjoy...

"I'll Praise you in this storm
And I will lift my hands
You are who you are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will Praise You in this storm"

Zechariah's News

Jesus, The One and Only Day One:

"The an angel of the Lord appeared to [Zechariah], standing at the right side of the altar of incense. When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord." ~Luke 1:11-17

Can you imagine what it would be like to know these things about your child before they are even conceived? We pray all the time that Caleb will grow up to be strong in his faith, and that we, as his parents, will be able to guide him to God. How incredible it would be to know that your child would "be great in the sight of the Lord" and "turn the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous." What a blessing for Elizabeth and Zechariah to know so much about their coming son!

What a great God we serve!

Tagged!

I was tagged by Diane to list 6 random things about myself. So, here goes...

1. I am afraid of the dark. No kidding! When the sun goes down, so do the blinds in our house.

2. I greatly dislike (read: am afraid of) people dressed up as cartoon characters, animals, etc. (like at Disney World or anywhere else.) It creeps me out. Clowns, too.

3. When hubby gets me a glass of water, he asks how many pieces of ice I want in it because I actually care how many pieces go in. Too many makes it too cold and I can't get enough water for all the ice. Too few and it's not cold enough. Neurotic, I know.

4. I taught high school for 3 years before becoming a mommy. I learned a lot, but am not sure I want to do it again. Will be praying about that when the time comes that I choose to/need to return to work. Hopefully not before our children are all in school (we only have one now, but I've decided I would like 4. Hubby's not convinced!)

5. I lived in Thailand for 6 1/2 months my last year in college with Lisa working with a college ministry. It was an incredible experience that helped to shape my faith.

6. I dated hubby (then boyfriend!) while I was gone and we were married 8 months after I returned (we don't recommend dating across the world, but it worked for us). Been happy ever since!

There you have it! Now I'm tagging Lisa, VJ, erinlo, Heather, Laura, and Mary Have fun!!

New Bible Study

Tonight some friends and I are starting another Beth Moore study, Jesus, the One and Only. I am so excited to start this study, and I need a kick in my spiritual appetite these days. I know I will be blessed by what God has to show me through this study. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Here is an excerpt about the book from Lifeway:

"In her previous books, Beth Moore has introduced her readers to David and Paul. In Jesus, the One and Only, Beth introduces them to an intimate Savior as they get a close-up and personal portrait of the life of Jesus the Messiah.

But this is far more than just a work on the life of Christ. As He has done in the past, God uses Beth's words to woo the reader into a romance with the One and Only. The reader comes to know Christ personally, watching and listening as He breaks up a funeral by raising the dead, confronts conniving religious leaders of His day, teaches on a Galilean hillside, or walks on the waves and calms the storm."

I am anxiously awaiting my time with Him.

Holiness

"How little people know who think that holiness is dull. ...When one meets the real thing, it's irresistible." ~C.S. Lewis

Oh, Lord, I desire to be more holy. May I never think that holiness is dull, but that becoming more like you is irresistible!
