Works for Me Wednesday

Shannon over at Rocks In My Dryer has a weekly column called "Works for Me Wednesday" where everyone shares tips that make life easier for them. My tip this week is homemade laundry detergent. It's easy and cheap! Works for me.

The ingredients:

The storage container:

The recipe:
1 cup grated bar soap (I use Zote Mexican laundry soap--we get it at the dollar store 3/$1)
1/2 cup Borax
1/2 cup washing soda (made by Arm & Hammer; in the laundry aisle)

Mix together and store in a container with a lid. Use 1 TBS per load, 2 if heavily soiled. This mixture is a fraction of the cost of store bought laundry detergent.

It's that easy!!

(I found another homemade laundry detergent I want to try here, but I need to obtain a 5 gallon bucket first.)

Homemade laundry detergent saves me money and works for me!

Hmmm -- if I ever get a free moment in my day when I'm not sleeping (between 9 and 6:30 am) I'll have to give this a try!!!

Wish I could be a SAHM! ;-(

Hey GiBee, I could mix you up some and send it to you, but I think the Postal Service is against that! I wish you could be a SAHM, too.

I'll have to try this...I haven't used any of these products before besides the A & H. Did you say only a Tablespoon per load? Did I read that right?

Jennifer said...

Yep, only a tablespoon. It lasts forever...hence the savings!!

(the reason behind only one TBS is because it's so concentrated you don't need more--except for huge loads and really dirty clothes!)

What an incredible idea--over the years no telling how much you can save by using this. Amazing that is takes only a tablespoon!

Sassy Diva...welcome to my blog! I don't know why I haven't shared that info before. I'm not sure about the scents, but the other one I linked to you can add scents. I want to try that one, too.
