Fall Into Reading Challenge

Katrina has issued a challenge:

"The Fall Into Reading Challenge encourages you to set goals for your personal and/or family reading. Everyone who wants to participate will make a list of books that they'd like to read (or finish) during the next few months. We'll share these goals with each other, and then share our results at the end of the challenge."

So, let the challenge begin.

Being a former English teacher and loving books, I have tons on my shelves that have not been read. Sometimes I think I'm more of a book collector, seeing as how I don't have or make the time to read as often as I'd like with a one-year-old son in the house. But I'm taking Katrina's challenge to read more this fall, so here's my list, grouped into categories.

Bible Study: Wisdom for Mothers by Denise Glenn
Lord, Teach Me to Study the Bible in 28 Days by Kay Arthur
Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur

Fiction: A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Divine by Karen Kingsbury
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (not pictured...I have misplaced my copy)

Nonfiction: The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
A Mother's Heart by Jean Fleming
The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie O'Martian
Soul Survivor by Philip Yancey
Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge

Several of the books listed I have started at one time or another but have not finished. I am already involved in Bible studies with the first two books in that category, but I want to persevere and finish those studies (I have a bad habit of starting things but not finishing them!).

My goal for reading with Caleb is to go to the library at least once every two weeks and read aloud to him every day.

I'll keep you updated on my progress, and, hopefully, there will be progress!

That's a neat challenge. I'm glad I joined my book club because that makes me read at least one book per month. Do all of my pregnancy books count?? If so, I have been reading a lot lately! I have the same habit as you. I will pick up a book I have wanted to read for years and then I never finish it. I have read the first three or four chapters of some books over and over again. Maybe I'll pick some of them back up and read them this fall before the baby comes. I think I may have a lot less time with a newborn in the house. :)

Great books, I've read the Chronicles of Narnia and loved it, and I have The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom, it's still one of my all time favorite books, let me know how you like it :)

Great list. The Chronicles of Narnia are some of my all-time favorites, as is The Hiding Place. Thanks for joining in!

LOL about a book collector. I think I am a big reader, but maybe a bigger collector. I am going to read the Chronicles, too. I just finished the first one, and my daughter is about to finish the second one, so I thought we might make the last 3 read alouds. We'll see. They aren't on "teh list" so they might have to wait.

See I knew this would happen. You've got a bunch I need to add to my list! Narnia, Pride & Prejudice, Hiding Place. I purposely made my list smaller just for this reason! :v)

Great reads on here!

Great list! I spotted Chronicles of Narnia right off. That very same picture of Aslan stares at me every night. :)
I'm in on the Teach Me to Study the Bible study.
I've been really interested in reading Captivating, too. So many books...

A Voice in the Wind really helps you understand the society just after Jesus's death. It is a great one and then you have to read the next!!!!

Pride and Prejudice is on my list, too. :) You'll love Francine Rivers and The Chronicles of Narnia.

I promise you're going to love A Voice in the Wind. I finished it last night. You're going to read the other two in the trilogy, too. They're so good they're hard to put down.

I've done the Lord, I Want To Know YOu study - good one. Also read The Power of a Praying Wife by O'Martian before. I think I read it at a bad time and didn't really enjoy it. I liked Soul Survivor by Yancey. It was different than I thought it would be, but good.

I'm thrilled to see someone reading The Hiding Place! I reread that one often -- Corrie Ten Boom has long been one of my all-time heroes. I hope you'll post what you think of it. :)

oh, great choices! Most of these books I have either read or are on my list of "books to read". Enjoy them!

I've seen several people with Hiding Place on their list, great book...but I'll have to add it for next challenge maybe! I love anything by Karen Kingsbury. You have a great variety on your list; mine leans too much toward fiction!

Ok, I will admit this...I am not a reader!!! :( Hope you meet your challenge.

PS I envy that you live in TX with sunny warm days during winter. I miss summer badly!!!

Great list, lots of great books and variety here. I look forward to hearing about them as you finish :) I've read Divine and highly recommend it. I want to re-read Pride and Prejudice; it's been years since I read it.

There are several others on your list that I hope to get to one day. I so hope you make your goal of reading aloud to your son every day, such an important and wonderful gift, a love of books!

Happy Fall and Happy Reading!
